03 SEP - Independence, VA to Tuggle Gap, VA

Met up with OJ in Independence, VA, SW corner of VA.

Grayson County Courthouse.

OJ's scooter parked in front.

GrandMaMa working at GrandMaMa's Restaurant [where we didn't eat lunch].

We left Independence to ride along the local river roads, got a little lost at times and found ourselves a short distance away, across the NC border, From Sparta, NC, we hopped on the Blue Ridge Parkway and headed north.

Just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Big Island, VA where we tanked up, bought the traditional lottery ticket and enjoyed a delish pork chop sandwich.

Towards the end of the day, we checked out Floyd, VA for a place to stay just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. We were told the town associates itself with "Floyd the Barber" of "Mayberry" fame and apparantly, this makes a motel room very expensive. Mike used the opportunity to find a cell and Wi-Fi connection.

We backtraced 6 miles to the Tuggle Gap Inn, right off the Parkway: down-home cooking [chicken fried steak] and country pickers. Due to a no-show, we upgraded to a deluxe room [$50] which meant a better shower... not that there was a bathroom mirror to shave by. No TV or Wi-Fi, but Hell, we're on vacation.
